Kai Ryssdal coming to Baltimore
October 9, 2008
You might think that at the end of each day covering a business beat at The Daily Record, the last thing someone like me would want to do is listen to business news on the radio.
But come 6:30 each evening, Marketplace, American Public Media’s syndicated public radio business news show is usually what’s on in my car. Host Kai Ryssdal never fails to explain financial markets and economics both macro- and micro- to Joe Six Packs across the country with wit, drama and some of the best theme music in the business (“From the Frank Stanton Studios in Los Angeles, this is Marketplace!—”, then cue the heavy, almost tribal drums—you know what I’m talking about).
Well, local public radio station WYPR is bringing Ryssdal to Baltimore for a breakfast discussion and Q&A session Nov. 7, hosted by the brand-new Hilton hotel. WYPR’s Deborah Davis told me Thursday that the topic of Ryssdal’s talk is yet to be determined, which makes sense, because it’s three days after the presidential election, and we’re living in a world where financial markets and economic outlook can go from flyin’ high to bailin’ out from one week to the next. But his talk promises to be a good one, nonetheless.
Tickets start at $25 for WYPR members and $35 for non-members, and are available by calling 410-735-1618.
