Giant has makeover, reveals new logo

August 21, 2008

Is it a fruit basket? Is it a funky “G”? A bird? A plane? Superman? Whatever you see, you might not first recognize it as Giant Food the next time you drive your friendly neighborhood Giant grocery store.

newlogo.jpgFor the first time since John F. Kennedy was in the White House, the Landover-based grocery store chain is changing its familiar logo from the word “Giant” inside a large “G” to something a little more avant guarde (or so the corporate execs hope).

The company’s new logo will be unveiled tomorrow as part of the massive overhaul and remodel 100 Giant stores in the Maryland-D.C.-Virginia area are undergoing. If you shop at Giant, you’re probably familiar with the magnitude of the makeover the chain store is doing — from product pricing changes, to scan-while-you-shop tools to Starbucks Coffee stands — it’s a whole new grocery store.

What do shoppers think so far of the changes the company is making? Are you angrily muttering to yourself as you step around the remodeling areas inside the stores and wander through the aisles to find out where they’re now stocking the ketchup?

Or do you see the light at the end of the tunnel and are looking forward to the changes? Do you like the new logo?
