DLA Piper to raise associate salaries, too

January 31, 2008

DLA Piper has decided to up associate salaries, with first years in Baltimore getting $160K, retroactive to January 1. Last week, Venable apparently raised to $160K as well.

What do you think of the new salaries for these big firms?

It’s great if you’re getting it, but I don’t think its realistic for Baltimore firms.

The only reason I can figure that these firms are paying this is to keep everyone from asking to transfer to the Washington office. Firms without big D.C. offices should not follow suit. These pay raises inevitably lead to increased billing rates and will eventually price firms out of the work that local businesses need. Venable and DLA have willingly abandoned that work in favor of national practices. They are not representative of Baltimore anymore.

Got something to say?
